Choosing a dentist is a long-term decision

A good dentist is not the one who does the most impressive-sounding treatment. It is the one you are still going back to in ten years, who knows your history, and who tells you when something does not need doing.

Five things worth checking before you book anywhere

1. Do they show you the evidence? A dentist who puts your X-ray on the screen and points at the problem is giving you a way to check their reasoning. One who simply announces a treatment plan is not.
2. Is the price given in writing, in advance? Verbal estimates drift. A written plan with the figure on it does not, and it also tells you the clinic has thought the whole case through rather than treating tooth by tooth.
3. How do they handle sterilisation? Ask. Instruments should be packed and autoclaved between patients, and disposables genuinely used once. Any clinic worth going to will be pleased you asked.
4. Do they ever tell you to wait? Not everything needs treating today. A dentist who occasionally says "let us watch this for six months" is one whose urgency you can trust when they do use it.
5. Can you get there easily, at a time that works? The best clinic in Delhi is useless if you keep cancelling because it is across town at 3pm on a Tuesday. Proximity and evening slots are a real clinical factor, because they are what keeps you coming back.
